Create a Look that is Unique to You

Have you seen the popular website commercials on television telling you that creating a business website is easy and requires no technical “know how?” If so and you bought in, you may have been duped by¬† computer coders hoping to make a quick buck. The truth of the matter is creating websites is a fairly simple process but understanding the basics of HTML, CSS & PHP are a requirement to make your website look professional & consistent.

Color schemes, website movement & design are all pieces of the puzzle and knowing code is how we manipulate it. Although WordPress operates off of design templates, the template is the starting point that provides consistency. I have yet to meet a business owner who wants a canned look – I always get request for modifications during the design process to match a business owners tastes. If you are a business owner as well, I presume you are in the same boat and therefore a canned t.v.-commercial website creator tool is not going to be your flavor.

The Goal of Design: Sales

Through all the clutter of getting your business online – its important to remember one thing:

Your website is designed to attract customers and drive sales!

In essence a good design works to lower your Bounce Rate – the number of viewers who leave your page without traveling to a second page of your site.

To understand the importance of Bounce Rates and what this means for converting customers into paying customers, I invite you to read my article: Boosting Your User Experience.

Google is not a secret entity that you need expensive web services to crack. They tell you exactly how your website is performing. This is a screen shot of my Google Analytics Dashboard for Dallas Web Guy. A Bounce Rate of 25% means that most website visitors are sticking around to read more than one web page. This equals a higher conversion rate (sales).
